Originally qualifying as a corporate lawyer, Mila worked for over 18 years at the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment in the field of labor relations, where she spent 11 years working on pensions policy. She then spent eleven years working at the Stichting voor Ondernemingspensioenfondsen (Association of Company Pension Funds, Opf) and the Federation of the Dutch Pension Funds. She was involved in many areas in these positions, fulfilling roles such as that of chief executive officer of the Pension Funds Code. Mila went self-employed in 2016 and is now associated with various funds – as a director (Het nederlandse pensioenfonds, Hnpf) and supervisor (Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Bpf Koopvaardij and Heineken Pension Fund Foundation – and is also member of the Supervisory Board at PensioenFonds TNO.
Asked why she became a Supervisory Board member of PDN, Mila says:
‘The main motivating factor in my work is to ensure a robust pensions system. Safeguarding members’ interests is always the priority. PDN is a company pension fund that I have known for years, albeit on a more remote basis. It is therefore an honor to be able to contribute to this fund with my expertise in legal affairs and communication. Since I’m very interested in issues such as governance and future-proofing, the fact that I currently occupy a range of positions at various funds is of added value for PDN This knowledge and experience come in handy for all positions.’
