Then there may still be some arrangements in place for you and your children if your partner:

  • passed away within 6 months of leaving employment, or
  • passed away within 2 years of leaving employment and received WW or WIA benefits, or
  • chose to continue the partner’s pension and orphan’s pension with us.

Do you need to do anything to receive the partner’s and orphan’s pension?

Were you

  • married,
  • in a registered partnership,
  • living together and had submitted a cohabitation certificate to us,

You don’t need to do anything. You will automatically receive a notification from us about the partner’s and orphan’s pension

Were you living

  • together without being married or a registered partnership, or
  • outside the Netherlands?

Then it is important that you are registered as the partner. Is your name not listed on the latest UPS or in My PDN Pension? Then you can prove your partnership with an extract from the civil registry showing that you lived together. Without this, we cannot pay the partner’s and orphan’s pension because we would not know where to send it.

Your partner’s pension and orphan’s pension will change in line with the economy

Pensioenfonds PDN invests the money in the pension pots of your partner’s pension and orphan’s pension. Thereby, we aim for a good balance between sufficient return with as little risk as possible of your partner’s pension and orphan’s pension decreasing. Each year, the investment result is added to the pension pot for you and your children. After this, we determine how your monthly amount changes for the following year. This way, we try to maintain purchasing power. However, there is also a small chance your monthly amount may decrease.

What can you expect?

Each year, you receive an overview showing the partner’s pension and orphan’s pension you can expect in the coming year and the years after. Because the future is difficult to predict, the overview includes three scenarios:

  1. Expected: This is the pension you are expected to receive.
  2. Bad weather: This is the pension you may receive if the economy is doing poorly for an extended period;
  3. Good weather: This is the pension you may expect if the economy is doing well.

Is there a risk of my pension pot decreasing?

That is possible, if the economy takes a downturn for an extended period. However, the chance of your pension decreasing is small.  We have several ways to keep your pension as stable as possible and aim for a pension that maintains purchasing power in the long term. We do this by:

  1. Responsible investing: balancing sufficient return with as little risk as possible of your partner’s pension and orphan’s pension decreasing.
  2. Spreading financial shocks: PDN spreads financial setbacks over 3 years, so your partner’s pension and orphan’s pension cannot suddenly drop sharply. This also applies to windfalls – your pension will not suddenly rise sharply either.
  3. The solidarity reserve: If economic conditions are so unfavourable that pension payments must decrease despite shock-spreading, PDN uses this reserve to supplement your pension to the extent that it does not decrease.
