What if I’m no longer around?

You’d rather not think about it, but it is important: what happens to your partner if you pass away? Will your partner be able to continue the life you built together?
It is important for your partner to be prepared and to know what arrangements there are for them through your pension.

Will my partner receive a partner’s pension?

  • Were you already together at the time of your retirement? Then you decided together whether there should be a partner’s pension and how high it should be. This partner’s pension starts the moment you pass away.
  • Did you start living together after your retirement? Then no partner’s pension has been arranged through your pension. Your partner must then rely on other sources of income.

Please note: Do you have a former partner?

Then this former partner may also be entitled to a share of the partner’s pension.

Does my partner need to do anything to receive the partner’s pension?

  • If you are married, in a registered partnership, or previously submitted a cohabitation certificate, and you live in the Netherlands: Your partner does not need to do anything. We will automatically contact your partner and arrange the payment once we know which bank account to transfer the money to.
  • Are you living together outside the Netherlands, or without being married or in a registered partnership? Then we will need a cohabitation certificate. Without this certificate, we cannot contact your partner. It will be up to your partner to take action, which is especially burdensome at such a moment.

You can send us a cohabitation certificate now to ensure that all arrangements are already in place.

Partner’s pension and orphan’s pension will change in line with the economy
